American Girl Books

The American Girl books are very well written pieces of realistic fiction. The books feature one girl as the main character in a series of American Girl stories. Each girl’s story is set during an important period of time in history. Some examples of the girls include Molly, whose story set during WW II, Kit whose story is set during The Great Depression, Kaya who is a Native American girl set in the late 1800s and Samantha who libes in Victorian era America.

At the end of each novel is a section called “A Peek Into the Past.” This section tells more about some of the issues the characters faced during that time in history. There are several pictures and illustrations to help children learn about the part of history on which the book focuses.

These books have been a wonderful introduction to historical facts and they have also introduced my daughter to different cultures such as Swedish, Native American, and African.
